Mathew-Jon Alexander Gayle

January 3, 1993 - August 25, 2024

Mathew-Jon Alexander Gayle entered this world on January 3, 1993 and exited on Sunday, August 25, 2024.

Mathew was born in St. Andrew, Jamaica West Indies, and was adopted by his mom, Dorette Gayle, at nine weeks. The family lived in Kingston and St. Catherine until he migrated to Florida at the age of 9.

While in Florida he excelled in minor league football and also earned numerous trophies and a black belt in karate. He played the violin and piano at his church. At age 12, he accepted the Lord Jesus as his personal Savior and became a member of Margate Moravian Church.

In the summer of 2008, he transferred from Florida to Delaware where he attended and graduated from the Mount Pleasant High School. He continued his education at Delaware Technical Community College and the Art Institute in Philadelphia, where he pursued a course of study in Audio Engineering. Playing video games and maneuvering on the computer was his passion. Mathew worked as a salesperson for several energy companies and he loved his job. In his words, he loved helping people.

Mathew-Jon was the life of the party, according to his friends. He loved the water, whether in the pool or beach, he soared. He was compassionate, good humored, and respectful to people who met this young man.

Mathew-Jon will be greatly missed by his numerous family and friends; mom, Dorette; son, Julian; uncles and aunts, Claude and Dawn, Andrea, Garth and Shelly, Jacquie and Everald; cousins, Samara and David, Michelle, Keni and Ainsley, Ilia, Orville, Ashley and Quiaian; and his childhood caregiver, Tricia Gordon Auntie Berdie.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 2274 Porter Road, Bear, DE 19701, where a celebration of life will begin at 11 am. A repast will follow in the fellowship hall.
