yer-or-no

A ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ answer isn’t as straightforward in a culture that is quick to turn the tables from simple to complicated. It poses a horde of challenges to keep your word or stand by your principles when your soul is overextended. And when we factor in the volatility of our emotions as well as our conflicting desires, we selfishly maneuver our way into finding favorable outcomes for ourselves out of the situations we’re in.

But let your statement be, ‘Yes. Yes’ or ‘No, no’ [a firm yes or no];
Anything more than that comes from the evil one.
– Matthew 5:37, AMP

  • How many times have you pulled back on your intentions when people depend on you to follow through?
  • How many times have you punctured your reliability as a person and broken promises all because you couldn’t adhere to the original plan?
  • How many times have you chosen to stay on the gray area for issues that require you to stand on solid ground, just to minimize conflict with the opposing party?
  • How many times have you drawn the line in the sand to not commit a sin that keeps you bound to ball and chain, but compromise weakly when temptation stares you in the face?

When we go outside of God’s design, that’s when we litter our mind with worries and fears that disrupt our peace. We tend to over analyze and over complicate because of our need to gain control or justify our reasons. We put the burden onto ourselves, then it becomes too heavy on our shoulders that we eventually break down. Be on guard with the trickery of the evil one inserted into all the ‘in-betweens’ that plainly warranted your obedience for a simple yes or no answer.

Will you obey God today?
