Christmas is Worship: A Reflection on the True Meaning of the Season

Introduction
As we gather to celebrate the Christmas season, it's essential to remember the true essence of this holiday. Beyond the decorations, gifts, and festive meals, Christmas is fundamentally about worship. This blog post will explore the profound message of worship embedded in the Christmas story, as shared in our recent sermon. Let's dive into the heart of Christmas and discover how we can truly honor and glorify God during this special time.

What is Christmas Really About?

The Birth of Jesus: A Divine Gift
Christmas marks the birth of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world. This event is not just a historical occurrence but a divine intervention where God sent His only Son to live among us and offer salvation. John 3:16-19 reminds us of God's immense love: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."

The First Christmas: A Scene of Worship
The first Christmas was a scene of worship. Angels filled the heavens, singing "Glory to God in the highest" (Luke 2:14). Shepherds, upon hearing the good news, hurried to see the newborn King and returned glorifying and praising God (Luke 2:20). The Magi traveled from afar, bringing gifts and bowing down in worship (Matthew 2:11). These acts of worship highlight the true essence of Christmas.

Why is Worship Central to Christmas?

Understanding Worship
Worship is glorifying God for who He is and what He has done. It involves recognizing His infinite worth, splendor, and majesty. The Hebrew word for glory, "kavod," means heavy or weighty, signifying God's immense value. In the New Testament, the Greek word "doxa" refers to honor, praise, and worship.

The Glory of God in Jesus
John 1:14 states, "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth." Jesus' birth is the manifestation of God's glory. When we see Jesus for who He is, our natural response is to worship Him.

How to Worship During Christmas

See Him
To worship God, we must first see Him. The angels, shepherds, and Magi all saw Jesus and responded in worship. Psalm 34:8 encourages us to "taste and see that the Lord is good." This Christmas, take time to focus on Jesus, to see Him in all His glory and splendor.

Glorify Him
Worship involves glorifying God for who He is and what He has done. Reflect on His attributes: He is our Savior, Lord, Friend, King, Redeemer, Provider, and Sustainer. Consider His deeds: He has saved, healed, forgiven, blessed, and guided us. As you see Him, glorify Him with your words, actions, and heart.

Practical Ways to Worship
1. Prayer and Reflection: Spend time in prayer, thanking God for the gift of Jesus. Reflect on His love and grace.

2. Scripture Reading: Read the Christmas story in the Gospels. Meditate on the significance of Jesus' birth.

3. Singing Carols: Sing songs that honor and glorify Jesus. Focus on the lyrics that speak of His majesty and love.

4. Acts of Kindness: Show God's love to others through acts of kindness and generosity. Serve those in need as a reflection of Christ's love.

5. Family Conversations: Talk to your family about the true meaning of Christmas. Share the story of Jesus and discuss how you can honor Him together.

Life Application

A Challenge for the Week
This week, challenge yourself to make worship the central focus of your Christmas celebration. Amidst the busyness, take intentional steps to see and glorify Jesus. Here are a few questions to guide your reflection:

1. How can I make time to focus on Jesus amidst the holiday activities?

2. What specific attributes of God am I grateful for this Christmas?

3. How can I share the true meaning of Christmas with my family and friends?

4. What acts of kindness can I perform to reflect Christ's love to others?

Conclusion
Christmas is a time of joy, love, and celebration, but most importantly, it is a time of worship. As we remember the birth of Jesus, let us respond with hearts full of praise and adoration. May our lives reflect the glory of God, and may we honor Him in all that we do. Merry Christmas, and may your worship be a sweet offering to our King.
