I remember when I was young hearing my Father, my Uncles, and some of my teachers all tell me, If you Love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life.
Since I was 4 years old, I wanted to be a pilot! I did realize the dream, although I was not fortunate enough to make a career out of it. I know I would have loved that job and experienced the feeling of never working a day in my life.
The expression of never working does carry some interesting connotations. In my opinion, it puts "working" in a bad light. Unlike an old Irish man use to tell me, "I'm blessed with work!", for truly, having a job at all, being able to support yourself and your family is a blessing in and of itself.
The Bible however, calls us to do good works.
Ephesians 2:10For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Jesus repeatedly told his followers that his chief aim was to bring glory to God (cf., John 12:28, 13:31). The ultimate purpose of Jesus’ life was not to die for our sins but to bring glory to God by dying for our sins.
And in Mark, we read;
Mark 12:30
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
So if we are to do good works, to His Glory, because we Love Him with all that we are and all that we do, then should Christians ever actually dread work? Should we look at Mondays as a day we cant wait to be over?
Perhaps if we looked at every day, Monday's included, as a day to look forward to we would be better off.
It is another day to do Good Works!
It is another chance to Bring Glory to God!
It is another chance to Love the Lord with all my heart, all my soul, all my mind, and all my strength.
If I give to all I do, my all, my best effort, as to the King of Kings, then everything I do can become Good Worship, if I do it to His Glory! Every task becomes an opportunity to Worship. Every task becomes an opportunity for me to let my God, who lives within me, shine for others to see. Every task becomes a new opportunity to bring Glory to God.
As Christians, we serve, we honor, we Glorify God in ALL we do. We do this because we Love our God because He first Loved us. We love what we do so we will never have to work a day in our life.
Amen
